Mitch Zaba

Hey, I’m a parent of 3 toddlers under the age of 4 so this article is just as much for me as it is you.

My wife and I are always looking for new ways to keep these wild creatures entertained and away from screen time.

Here’s a list of 10 ideas plus 1 bonus idea at the bottom you can do with your young children and grandchildren that are winter friendly and within driving distance.

1.  Skypark Regina Soft Play Area

Do you have a wide age range you need to entertain? Skypark Regina has a mixture of play areas for toddlers, school aged children and adults alike.

2.  Klimerz Indoor Playland

A personal favorite of ours. This climbing playground has a dedicated toddler space as well as their main climbing park. Children will get lost for hours in Klimerz. You can bring your own snacks are buy snacks and lunch at the canteen.

3.  Toddler Time at Get Air Trampoline Park

Get Air is a great place for children of all ages to burn some energy. Our favorite time though is Sunday morning during Toddler Time. This time is restricted to little ones making it a comfortable space for parents and toddlers to enjoy jumping around.

4.  Regina Early Years Family Resource Centre

They offer various drop-in programs throughout the week, including sensory play, music classes, literacy at play, and art activities (Preschool Picasso), all perfect for little ones. The best part? They’re all FREE!

5.  Regina Public Library

Many branches offer weekly story times specifically designed for under-7s. Programs such as Toddler Time and Mainly Mother Goose will surely keep your little ones entertained.

6.  Cathedral Art School and Studio

For older children, check out these drop in classes for painting and clay sculptures. What could be more fun than getting your hands dirty in some clay?

7.  Sandra Schmirler Leisure Center

Take your toddlers swimming for a guaranteed good time. When our family goes swimming, we have to drag them out of the pool. The Sandra Schmirler Leisure Center offers a slide, toddler area, diving boards and a sauna for you and the older children.

8.  The Rink On Wascana

If the weather isn’t too bad, take them to the scenic outdoor rink on Wascana Lake in front of the Legislative Building. You’ll have to bring your own skate.

9.  Tubing at Mission Ridge

Up for a drive? Take them to Fort Qu'appelle for a tube down Mission Ridge. Or, sign them up for ski or snowboarding lessons on the bunny hill as you watch from the cozy warm lodge.

10.  Tubing at Dallas Valley Ranch Camp

A little bit closer but with less amenities is a tubing hill at Dallas Valley Ranch. This hill is for the older children as you can get moving at a pretty high speed.

11.  Skating in Echo Valley

Again, if you’re looking for a cool skating spot, Echo Valley Provincial Park will provide a memorable experience. You can skate, snowshoe or cross country ski in the park. All you need is a park pass.

Final Say!

And one more sneaky fun spot for children? The Dollar Store. For real.

Our children love going to the dollar store to pick out 2 or 3 toys, play-dohs, painting canvases, stickers or coloring books. Then we come home and open everything up. It probably takes 2-3 hours and it can easily be done for less than $10/child.

Surely I missed something happening in Regina so please let me know what else I should be adding to the list.

Our family is always looking for new ways to entertain our children.
